Hibiscus Juice making

Hibiscus Juice has a lot of benefits and yet it is very easy to make. Women and Able hands Uganda Initiative seeks to economically empower women. We train women on how to make hibiscus juice. Most of the women who complete this training are able to start their small scale juice selling businesses to earn a living.  In this training, we emphasize good packing and storage of the juice to ensure that it’s free from contamination.

Hibiscus tea is made of dried hibiscus leaves and has been taken for many decades’. It is easy to make and it can be served when hot or cold.  You can steer the flowers in boiling hot water for a few minutes to make tea then chill it to make iced tea, this method allows you to enjoy the full flavor of hibiscus. Hibiscus has a fruity, acerbic flavor and a bright red color. The sugar in this tea recipe helps balance out the bitterness of the flowers but it can be left out or reduced if desired. Additional flavorings can easily be added to this recipe if you like.

Women trained are always advised that when cooking with dried leaves especially hibiscus, they need to remember that it will stain clothes, countertops, containers, and more bright red if they are not careful.
