Principle

Women should OWN their
BODIES!

Sexual and reproductive health is a crucial determining factor in the well being of everyone’s individual life. Currently, sexual and reproductive health is receiving a lot of attention all over the world, however, there still exists a gap in creating awareness of the same in the rural areas in Uganda.

Women and able hands initiative carries a mandate to educate young people about their sexual needs and how these needs can be satisfied without causing harm to their bodies and to the people around them.  At women and Able hands, we believe that every woman and girl has a right over their own bodies and our role is to help each individual make informed decisions regarding their bodies.

We know very well that women and girls are more prone to gender-based violence in form of sexual assault. Continually, we provide youth-friendly services in form of quality education regarding sexual and reproductive health.

There are so many girls whose dreams are buried because of teenage pregnancies. Women and girls experience a lot of violence when they give birth. Some are chased away from their homes, cannot continue with school, and others are abused by the men with which they stay.

There are two options that girls may choose from when they conceive, either abort the child or keep the child.

As women and able hands, our programs protect girls and women from violence and harmful traditional practices. We equip adolescents with necessary gender-based information and life skills to safe guard them from acquiring infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS.

To push the agenda, we also educate the male gender about their sexual needs and how they can be satisfied without violating the rights of the female gender. We believe that once the males are educated and empowered they can push the agenda of respecting the females and their bodies.
