Sponge making
As Women and Able hands Uganda Initiative seeks to economically empower women, we also believe that good hygiene is an essential part of safeguarding health, so establishing a concrete, consistent showering or bathing routine is pretty important. The entire bathing process consists of pouring water, soaping, scrubbing using a sponge, wiping, and drying with a towel. The bathing process doesn’t have to be complicated. But showering or bathing efficiently can save lots of water, lower your energy costs and restore your valuable time you might have been wasting.
Sponge making has had many benefits and it makes the available gels and soaps last longer. The sponges made are available in different types, sizes, long lasting and provide a gentle skin, making the skin look healthier with regular use. These bath sponges are suitable even for people with skin conditions such as eczema, sun damaged skin among others. Our Women are given materials to use which include nets, needle, knife, threads from sacks among others to make these bathing sponges.
“Tukola ebyangwe okuva mu buguwa mu size yonna nebituyamba okukuuma obuyonjo mu Maka gaffe ate nokubitunda okufunamu akasente netusobola okwebezawo nga abakyala mu maka gaffe”
The above statement was stated by one of our women participants translated as we ‘ make these sponges from nets in every size and they help us keep clean in our families but, we also sell them to get money for sustaining our families.
One purpose of bathing with a sponge is for personal hygiene, this means achieving cleanliness by washing away dead skin cells, mud, dirt and as a preventative measure to reduce the incidence and spread of disease.
